N\u00e4ituse esemed on kogutud v\u00e4lit\u00f6\u00f6de k\u00e4igus peamiselt Marimaalt, Komimaalt, Karjalast ja Udmurtiast, aga eksponaate on laenatud ka Tartus elavate Venemaalt p\u00e4rit soomeugrilaste ja soome-ugri huviliste erakogudest. Siiski on nad hea n\u00e4ide n\u00fc\u00fcdisaegsetest soome-ugri kultuuridest, kuna kohanikega suheldes kohtuvad etnograafid ka br\u00e4ndidega, mida kasutatakse kohaliku kultuuri edendamiseks. Sellep\u00e4rast on lisaks ersa- v\u00f5i marikeelse tekstiga autodele m\u00f5nikord ka ambivalentseid n\u00e4iteid soome-ugri kaubam\u00e4rkidest nagu Udmurtiast p\u00e4rit Kala\u0161nikov-viinapudel. Samamoodi on n\u00e4ituse pealkirjas esinev nimi Jo\u0161kin Kot (kass Jo\u0161kin) kaasa toodud: see t\u00e4hendab s\u00f5imus\u00f5na, millel on samasugune alatoon nagu s\u00f5nal kurat eesti keeles. Nimi on kasutusel Marimaal, mille pealinn on Jo\u0161kar-Ola \u2013 nii et nimi on s\u00f5nam\u00e4ng, kuigi Jo\u0161kar-Ola t\u00e4hendab \u201epunast linna\u201c mari keeles. See eksponaat olevatki saanud kriitikat sellep\u00e4rast, et ei peegelda maride enda kultuuri. Samas on see saanud populaarseks punases linnas, kus on sellenimeline kuju, vodkabr\u00e4nd ning kohvik. N\u00e4itus ongi minu arust \u00f5nnestunud, n\u00e4idates soome-ugri rahvaste kohta k\u00e4ivaid kaubam\u00e4rke olenemata sellest, kust see on p\u00e4rit. Tutvustatakse nii traditsiooniliste mustritega esemeid, rahvar\u00f5ivastest inspireeritud moodi kui ka soome-ugri suveniire ning m\u00f5nel seinal on Maaria Treima v\u00e4rvitud kujud. Esimeses ruumiosas on esitletud soome-ugri br\u00e4nde ja seda, kus neid n\u00e4ha on (nt Buranovo memmed v\u00f5i pelmeenid). Teises on n\u00e4iteid soome-ugri moest ning kolmandas aktuaalseid teemasid ja inimesi, kes on tutvustanud soome-ugri kultuuri, nagu Ruslan Provodnikov (\u201eSiberi Rocky\u201d) v\u00f5i Gerard Depardieu. Kuna tegemist on Eesti muuseumiga, on ka sellel n\u00e4itusel sihtr\u00fchmaks eestlased, kuid p\u00f5hir\u00f5hk on Venemaa soome-ugri br\u00e4ndidel. Kuratoorite j\u00e4rgi ongi eksponaatide valiku eesm\u00e4rk see, et eesti publik saaks neid v\u00f5rrelda oma kogemustega ja leida traditsioonide kasutamisest kaubam\u00e4rkides n\u00e4iteid ka Eestist.<br \/>\nTraditsioonilisuse m\u00f5iste kasutamine n\u00e4itusel viitab kuni 20. sajandi keskpaigani levinud arvamusele, et traditsiooniline kultuur on s\u00e4ilinud talurahva kultuuris. Nagu Marleen N\u00f5mmela kirjutab, p\u00f5hines sellel ka Eesti Rahva Muuseumi rajamine: eesti identiteeti ja muinasajalugu otsiti maarahva kultuurist, mille t\u00f5ttu koguti maalt esemeid ja rahvar\u00f5ivaid. Sellel oli kaks eesm\u00e4rki: kinnitada eesti identiteeti, aga ka n\u00e4idata, et see ajalugu on s\u00e4ilinud, teisis\u00f5nu, n\u00e4idata kultuurilist j\u00e4tkuvust. T\u00e4nap\u00e4eval on traditsiooni m\u00f5istet hakatud kasutama pigem nii, et see t\u00e4hendab teatud kultuuriliste n\u00e4htuste t\u00f5lgendamist t\u00e4nap\u00e4eval kultuurilise j\u00e4tkuvuse nimel. Oluline muutus on see, et traditsioon iseenesest ei t\u00e4henda ajaloolist j\u00e4tkuvust, vaid selle t\u00f5lgendamist ja t\u00e4htsate elementide edasiandmist teatud inimr\u00fchmas. Art Leete kirjutab Sirbis komide majakaunistamise n\u00e4itel sellest, kuidas traditsioon ja selle m\u00f5iste s\u00f5ltuvadki inimestest, kes peavad mingit kultuurin\u00e4htust oluliseks ja tahavad seda j\u00e4tkata. Isegi kui katuseid ja verandasid ei kaunistata enam nikerduste, vaid v\u00e4rvidega, saab seda ikka pidada traditsiooniliseks selle ajalise kestvuse m\u00f5ttes. \u00dcksikute mustrite kasutamine \u00fclekantud funktsioonis ehk t\u00e4nap\u00e4eva etnilise identiteedi n\u00e4itamine kaubam\u00e4rkides on samas m\u00f5ttes traditsiooni j\u00e4tkamine. Esiplaanil seelik ja kleit mari p\u00e4ritolu disaineri Natalja Lille loomingu hulgast.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>K\u00fcsimus, mida v\u00f5iks minu arust ka n\u00e4itusel arutada, on etnilise identiteedi roll \u00fcleilmastuvas maailmas. Traditsioonilisi mustreid, v\u00e4rve ja s\u00fcmboleid kasutatakse t\u00e4nap\u00e4evases kontekstis, aga vanasti olid needsamad s\u00fcmbolid jms etnilise identiteedi markerid. Mustritel, v\u00e4rvidel ja s\u00fcmbolitel oli eesm\u00e4rk ja funktsioon n\u00e4iteks kaitsta inimest kurja silma eest \u2013 ilu oli tagaj\u00e4rg. T\u00e4nap\u00e4evane traditsioonidel p\u00f5hinev mood kasutab samu vahendeid oma kultuuri tutvustamiseks. Erinevalt varasemast tekib praegu aga k\u00fcsimus, kelle jaoks etnilisust tutvustatakse. Kas maridest ja udmurdidest moedisainerid teevad oma r\u00f5ivaid enda rahva esindajate jaoks v\u00f5i globaliseerunud maailma kodanikule, keda huvitab etniline mood? Kas t\u00e4nap\u00e4eval on tegemist etnilise kultuuriidentiteediga, kuna vanad etnilised markerid on tehtud v\u00e4liseks br\u00e4ndiks, n\u00e4iteks nagu kuuma raua m\u00e4rk kariloomal?<br \/>\nERMi soome-ugri br\u00e4ndin\u00e4itus ongi minu arust hea vaatepunkt nendele teemadele, mis on olulised v\u00e4ikeste rahvaste jaoks interneti, rahvusvahelisuse ja tarbimise \u00fchiskonnas.<br \/>\nBr\u00e4ndin\u00e4itus on v\u00e4rske l\u00e4henemine traditsiooni m\u00f5istele. Vanade etniliste tunnuste kasutamine uues kontekstis on t\u00e4htis nii rahva kui ka selle tunnuste s\u00e4ilimiseks. Nii nagu Eestis on levinud etnomood n\u00e4iteks telefonikottidel ja vihmavarjudel, toimub sama ka teistel soome-ugri rahvastel. Vanu s\u00fcmboleid kasutatakse praegusaja esemete juues ning vanadele esemetele antakse uus elu uues t\u00e4henduses.
